Wouldn’t you like to grow the best lawn in your neighborhood, with the right shade of green, to show off on St Patrick’s Day? That would be quite an achievement, and it certainly can be done though it will require time, hard work and patience, and some knowledge about how to go about it.
Your first step is to acquire the correct grass seeds for your garden conditions. There are different grass seeds available for different climatic conditions. If you get mild winters and warm summers, as in the Southern states of US, you will need a warm season grass seed. If, on the other hand, your climate is like the Northern states of the US, where summers are mild but winters are cold, you will need to plant cool season grass.
The next step is to determine how much the lawn is going to be used. If people are going to walk about on it constantly, you will need to plant grass that is hardy and recovers quickly. If the lawn is largely ornamental, you can be less picky. You will also need to decide how much time and effort you are going to devote to the lawn because some types of grasses require a lot more care and attention than others.
If your yard has several different growing conditions such as lots of sun in some parts and shade in the others, you may need to pick different grasses to suit these areas. Write down as much information as you can about the growing conditions, and then, compare them to the grass seed labels at the store. If you have a problem you can ask an employee to help. Remember that warm season grass is planted in the summer while cool season grass is best planted in autumn or spring. You may need to experiment a little until you find the right combination of grass.
